I am honoured to have known and worked with Herbert at the IGC over the last 7 years, on Sierra Leone & Liberia, as well as our broader fragile states portfolio. I learned an incredible amount from him – he invited me in to discussions, opened up opportunities for me to learn and contribute, was a trusted source of advice and wisdom as I took over the IGC’s fragile states portfolio, and in many ways mentored me. We had many plans up our sleeves for the coming year, collaborations we were both so excited about. Herbert was also a friend – I so enjoyed our chats and spending time with him, and he taught me many valuable life lessons too – including that you must clearly specify you want a *cold beer in Sierra Leone (or the default would be room temperature!) I will deeply miss Herbert and will treasure the time I had with him and the lessons and wisdom he taught me. Go well, Herbert x
