Herbert, whenever we meet in company of others, would tease me with “do you know what you’re signing?” I was an Auditor and I was in Botswana to audit our UNDP Office where Herbert was Resident Representative . At our introductory meeting, I asked him, as head of the office, if he’s aware of all that transpires in the office which led to my question. Herbert reacted with that whimsical smile of his.and never forgot my question, in fact he converted it to a pet name for me. He invited me to lunch that day when I met Selina and the family friendship was sowed. As colleagues, we worked very well and were supportive of each other. UNDP was mounting a high level investigation on one of our projects in Russia and I was surprised when included in the mission. Lo and behold, my inclusion was influenced by Herbert.
Herbert was charitable. I often have a plate in hand to request funding for one cause or another and he always gave. He was a patron and sound supporter of KDY. He would have chaired KDY’s 2016 Homecoming but he had to travel so he offered us a replacement in the person of Mr Sam Itam.
Gone too fast and too soon. I feel so sad for you, for me and for your immediate and extended family. Make God gee you good road. As you dey nar d tru gron, watch and coba we, I pray. Rest in Perfect Peace and in due time, Rise in Glory. Amen.
