HERBERT M’CLEOD
I am very saddened to learn of Herbert’s passing. He was a highly intelligent and lovely colleague who introduced me to UNDP’s work in the mid-70s at the Sierra Leone office. Equally important – and proud as he was of his country – he initiated me to the culture and music of Sierra Leone and West Africa in general, for which I am still grateful. During his time at the Institute of Social Studies in The Hague, we corresponded quite a bit, in particular about his insatiable need for documents about the Manu River Union.
To Selina, the love of his life, and his children I want to share my deep sympathy. Herbert’s nobility of mind and love of life will be sorely missed, but will also continue to serve as an inspiration.
