Herbert, our friendship started in 1974, you a proud Sierra Leonian in our office in Freetown, I a visiting area officer from New York. Years later, in the 1980s, we were a team, a great team for a good number of years, in Gaberone. We could have written a book of many stories not including all the tales we could have told.
I will miss you Herbert, as a close friend, a co-combattant for all the things the UN stands for and in which the two of us believed.
Your picture, your sharp sense of humour, your incredible smile – they will remain with me. I am grateful for the time destiny had in reserve for us.
